Skills for Higher Education

Learn English to prepare you to study a bachelor’s degree at James Cook University Brisbane. Students who complete this course will have a range of academic skills to take them to university or further study, including:

  • Essay, data reporting and business letter writing
  • Competency in a range of speaking tasks including presentations, tutorials, meetings and negotiations
  • Ability to comprehend reading and listening texts on a range of business and global topics
  • Ability to use a wide range of English grammatical structure for academic purposes

The core skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening and grammar are integrated into your course. Your self-study program allows you to consolidate and practice your skills every week. A continuous weekly assessment model and individual feedback allows you to monitor your progress.

Students are required to be at least 17 years of age, to commence study in English Language programs at Sarina Russo Institute.

  • IELTS General Training will also be accepted for entry into SRI English courses.
  • Results more than two years old will not be accepted.
  • The SRI placement test will need to be undertaken.

Please note: class time can be scheduled anywhere between 8:30am and 7:30pm. Students are responsible for checking their own timetable on the Student Portal each week for class times.

  • Practice vocabulary and grammar learned in class with students from different levels
  • Monday to Friday
  • Length: 1 hour

  • Realistic learning approach to language learning.
  • Introduces students to Australian tertiary level learning culture.
  • Further develops language skills for successfully undertaking all aspects of student life at tertiary level.
  • 5 hours per week self study, includes online and grammar exercises.
